Jack proposed in October 2020 whilst we were on holiday in Santorini. It was the perfect end to a beautiful day celebrating Meg’s birthday.

We knew we wanted a laid-back, relaxed and fun celebration which represented us a couple. We wanted to eat all our favourite foods and listen to our favourite music with all our favourite people… cue Pieminister pies, unlimited crepes, popcorn and bao buns alongside an ABBA tribute band! We picked a bold colour palette consisting of pinks, teals and mustard which played a part in every element of our day.

We hired three giant tipis from Sami Tipi to go in Meg’s parent’s field. We wanted somewhere personal and where we could put our stamp on it! With gorgeous weather on the day, we were also able to hold our ceremony outside in the sun.

We had Simon Gynn (all the way from Dublin) to play live acoustic music for our ceremony. My bridesmaids walked down the aisle to Over the Rainbow and I followed with Here Comes the Sun. Our personalised ceremony led by Bex the Celebrant, featured a group sing-a-long of Ain’t No Mountain High Enough (one of our favourites), a written poem by Meg’s mum, a group vow and shot of Tequila Rose, as well as a hand-fasting, featuring our grandparents.

After the ceremony, the bridal party all walked back down the aisle to Crazy Little Thing Called Love. Simon also played two sets in the evening, including our first dance to Forever Young (our new surname!). We’re both huge ABBA fans, so it seemed only right that we had tribute band UK Bjorn perform for the remainder of the night!

Our wedding photographer Matt Moore is a family friend of Meg’s, and with his candid and relaxed style of photography, we knew he’d be the perfect fit for our day. Along with our videographer Tom at Marvellous Videography, Matt captured our whole day beautifully.

I came across the beautiful Avril Rue de Seine dress on Pinterest soon after we got engaged and fell in love instantly. I did some investigating and found that Jean Jackson Couture in Manchester stocked Rue de Seine. After trying on a few different dresses in the collection, my heart was always with Avril. The dress consists of a slip, layered with cornelli lace, featuring cut out details on the train and sleeves, a low back and full skirt and train.

I went for a simple, tassel veil with matching tassel earrings. Jack said from the get-go that he didn’t want to wear a full suit. As we planned for a more informal, personal celebration, we thought the jacketless, braces and bow-tie look would be perfect! Jack and his groomsmen went for a velvet dusky pink bow tie and braces from ASOS, paired with Moss Bros brown chino’s and high-top black Converse.

I chose to go for mismatch bridesmaid dresses, meaning my bridesmaids got to pick a style and colour that suited them best. We went with high-street dresses from ASOS, Boohoo and Next in pinks and mustards, which all looked beautiful together.

As a graphic designer by trade, I designed and printed our invites, stationery, seating plan, place names and signage. I created everything in our colour scheme, and added lots of cute tassels, fringing and gold foiling! I also had the very fun job of styling! We built, created and upcycled most of our décor, but hired a few extras from Inspire Hire Weddings, including the brass frames, milk churns and second peacock chair as we’d only managed to hunt down one!

We hired the rustic trestle tables from Green Farm Marquees and dressed them with pink dyed cheesecloth runners. They were then decorated with colourful candle sticks, tealights, bud vases and those all-important disposable cameras! To save on costs, we got all 56 chairs on Facebook Marketplace (ranging from £0-£5 each) and painted them in Farrow and Ball ‘Dix Blue’.

We picked up our cake sideboard on Facebook Marketplace for free, which we then painted in Farrow & Ball ‘Nancy Blushes’ as well as the very popular Booze Bath which I won on eBay for a grand total of £1! Other bits of furniture we picked up on Facebook Marketplace and eBay were the pink chaise longue (styled with our fab ‘he’s her lobster’ neon sign), boudoir chairs, pink telephone chair for our audio telephone guestbook,

and pink vintage sofa and armchairs (all of which I’d love to keep if we had a house big enough!). To cut costs, our family built the walkway for the festoon lighting, as well as our ceremony arbour. Meg’s mum made the tassel garland inside the tipi from old clothes and bed sheets! For outside, our local farmer dropped off three huge hay bales which were a big hit! I styled with lots of colourful cushions from our home,

and a few outdoor games including giant Jenga and noughts and crosses. As we’d gone for a very bold colour palette, we wanted this to be reflected in our flowers. I came across Hollie’s work on Instagram, and knew instantly she would be the right fit for us. We wanted fresh roses and peonies, mixed in with dried pampas and bunny tails to give a colourful boho vibe – and Hollie absolutely smashed it!

We had flower meadows going down the aisle and two lager arrangements for the arbour. To make the most of these arrangements, we moved these inside the tipi after the ceremony. Tables were decorated with floral bud vases (which I got from various charity shops and painted in our colour scheme) and we had two large milk churn floral arrangements at the entrance of the walkway.

Tanya at Daydreamer Creative Studio created us our gorgeous ‘Forever Young’ banner and our cute ‘Meg’ and ‘Jack’ chair cushions. Our friend Sophie over at @_the.goods created our beautiful wedding cake. We had two tiers (cherry bakewell & red velvet) decorated with white piping and cherries on top!

As a couple we love to travel, and Bali has always been on our bucket list. For our honeymoon, we explored Bali and the surrounding islands over 3 weeks, staying in some incredible Airbnb’s (including a bamboo house and a treehouse in the middle of the jungle!).
