Suspected Wedding Trends for 2023

If you’ve been bridesmaid dress shopping recently, especially shopping online, you might have noticed that satin dresses are having their MOMENT right now. And don’t get me wrong, I’m obsessed with them just like you. They are chic, modern, and a part of me believes that they aren’t going anywhere for a long time. But, I think we’ll start seeing a shift of more companies selling lines of dresses that are all different (yet, similar).

This means you might see a collection of ‘matching’ dresses in various patterns, appliques, or ombre shades to cater to the mismatched bridesmaid’s current trend. Anthropologie’s BHLDN (pronounced, ‘beholden’) is doing a great job of this with their limited edition Porcelain Bridesmaid dresses. And I’m REALLY hoping that they continue this trend and possibly come out with similar editions for my wedding next year. Hehe. But with that being said, I think satin dresses, although gorgeous, will be a bit overdone.

And I do believe that they aren’t inclusive enough to different body sizes. All in all, mismatched, or the alternative of non-matching dresses, will replace the satin fad and promote more individuality.

Netflix’s new show, Bridgerton, has peaked the popularity of the Regency era aesthetic. And we see lots of wax seals, chandeliers, ballrooms, tulle, and more Bridgerton influences come into this year’s wedding decor trends. BRIDGERTON SPOILER DISCLAIMER. In the later books of the Bridgerton series, one romantic wedding of one of the Bridgerton sisters (I won’t name who because I’m nice) takes place in a greenhouse.

And my bet, because we’re working with Netflix here, is that they will spare no expense in making this the most romantic, European, greenhouse/garden-party wedding scene ever. And I guarantee that it will skyrocket lots of future brides to seek out venues that look similar.

There’s a current hushed talk that 2022’s color of the year might be Orchid Flower, as suspected by Fashion United. My other guess is that we’ll see brighter colors replace the white, green, soft blush, champagne shades flowing through bridal aesthetics. As much as I’m a hypocrite and currently planning a more neutral-toned wedding, I can’t wait to see more pops of colors in the wedding scene. I think the upcoming runway fashion and the 80s/90s trends that we see now will soon influence the aesthetic of weddings.

You may have seen bridal capes make their debut in fancy Vogue featured weddings. Well, now you can purchase beautifully delicate and detailed capes from BHLDN, Etsy, Nordstrom, or even David’s Bridal. I’d highly recommend checking out Etsy first if the idea of bridal capes (or even arm veils, i.e., veils that act as long sleeves, falling from your upper arm) gets you all tingly. At this point, because capes and arm veils are a new trend, there’s a greater selection on Etsy, from handmade sellers, than in corporate stores.

So, we’ve covered arm veils and bridal capes, but what the heck is ‘shoulder jewelry?’ Best worn for strapless dresses, Imagine a huge necklace that continues to circle your shoulders, like epaulets. I think it’s an ode to 1920s fashion. Again, check out Etsy for a more extensive selection, and you’ll understand why it’s a growing sparkly wedding trend.

Live bands might gain more popularity than DJs, and lounge areas might become more of a priority. It’s no surprise that COVID has changed our perception of large events. But one of those mindful changes is a greater desire to make weddings feel more intimate. Music, especially a live band, is a great way to make a space feel more meaningful. And lounge areas (you know, those aesthetic couches and coffee tables for rent) might feel like more

of a necessity to spread guests around for healthy safety cautions. Plus, designated relaxing social areas may make guests feel more comfortable in a place that isn’t a dining chair or the dance floor.

I thought I was so unique when I found this idea on Pinterest a few months ago. However, it’s just a continued popular trend in the bakery world, and did rise to popularity in 2020. But of course, given weddings were put on a pause, this trend isn’t leaving anytime soon. I guarantee we’ll see a lot more pressed flower cakes in the upcoming years. I think it’s a lot easier for bakers to make, design-wise, which makes it simpler for couples to obtain.
