Laid-Back Fun & Quirky Woodland Wedding

Being a big Lionel Richie fan, we went to Scarborough open-air theatre with some friends. Ade tapped me on the shoulder during my favourite song (Penny Lover). The crowd had created a circle around him and he was on one knee. We had only been dating for 6 months at the time.

We knew we didn’t want anything too formal. We wanted our friends and family just to come and have fun. We feel that seating plans and such were unnecessary stress. We just wanted something relaxed and comfortable and hopefully outdoors.

We knew we wanted something picturesque and I couldn’t think of better views than the lakes. I found this new wedding venue called Low Hall the Lakes and I just instantly fell in love. It wasn’t quite finished when we visited but I could see all the potential and nothing compared to it. Guests were asking me how I found something so beautiful.

My wedding dress is by Suzanne Neville and I got it from Perfect Daze in Scissett. I knew I had to try on lots of dresses to make sure it was the right one. But this was the first one I tried on and I compared every other dress to it, so I know it was the one. The groom and groomsmen’s outfits were from Next. They didn’t want anything too fancy and comfortable for the day.

The ceremony was held in the woodland behind the cottage we were staying. We wrote our own vows, which proved to be tear jerkers. I walked down the aisle to Jason Wade – You Belong To Me (from Shrek) because it was one of the first songs Ade played and sang to me on guitar. The amazing band we had was the “South West Band” they were so accommodating and their range was outstanding.

Our photographer was the excellent Maddie Farris. Excellent with everyone and so easy to talk to. She made us feel comfortable and we knew we were in excellent hands. Maddie knew how to catch each precious moment without it looking staged.

Oh which ones to choose? Ade and I had wager on who could make the other cry during our vows and for a moment, when Ade started to well up, I forgot everyone was there and kind of shouted “oh ho! I win!” Or in the photo of us laughing and walking in a field, we had just invented a game that involved throwing cow pats at children and seeing if they could avoid them.

We are going to Punta Cana next week (26 weeks later) due to travel restrictions and such. We plan on reading and swimming in the sea. Just a nice laid-back honeymoon.

Do what you want to do, not what other people “suggest” just to please them. If you don’t want to invite your in-law’s old next-door neighbours because “Pat & John are like family”….then don’t.
