Intimate Coastal Cornish Cyclists Wedding

Cycling in the Alps July 2019, Mike thought he’d propose at the top of a mountain on one of our rides (Galibier to be precise), but with a combination of heatstroke, overcrowding and a descent to die for, he waited for our rest day when we hiked nearby our lodge. With no one in sight at a height of 2000m and a view to match, it was hard to say no!

Our original plan was a rustic barn wedding and a field to get married in with a sea view, followed by an awesome party to finish complete with a saxophonist. We had a guest list of 150, so onsite glamping options, a nearby campsite and a campfire with marshmallows were going to make it a full weekend of fun.

When we realised this wasn’t going to be allowed due to the pandemic, we quickly decided to scale down and go ahead with getting married anyway. Our new plan was one which I’ve dreamed of before; an intimate wedding at my family home at the bottom of Cornwall. With just thirteen guests, we were able to focus on the details. Homemade orders of service, hundreds of origami cranes, freshly caught crab and lobster, the best New Zealand sauvignon and pinot noir, and involvement from all our family members!

My Aunt is a vicar and took the wedding in a beautiful 13th-century church on the moor. My sister played the cello as I walked down the aisle, my brother made our wedding cake and my mum did all the flowers! After the service, we had a wonderful photo session with Lee Maxwell on Zennor Head – a wild and beautiful spot. There was a lot of love and laughter as we clambered on the rocks

and almost lost my veil in the wind. We then hopped on our bikes and cycled nearby the Gurnards Head before finally having some champagne and cake with our families! The evening was really special, with the usual speeches, games, music and sparklers to finish the night! We stayed close enough to cycle back to the house the following day for a BBQ with our friends and family and spend more time with them after a long 6 months of lockdown.

Thanks to Lee, who agreed last minute to do our tiny cornish wedding after his destination wedding was cancelled. He was really easy to get on with, and with his documentary-style photography got some amazing shots which we love.

A cycling honeymoon tour, what else! We set off fully loaded with a tent and supplies and cycled up and down the coast of Cornwall for 5 days. We did treat ourselves to one very fancy night at The Scarlet Hotel which was the perfect way to unwind and rest our aching muscles!
