Glowing & Joyful Rustic Meets Modern Wedding

At Fiscavaig Bay in the Isle of Skye. We were on a hiking holiday with our beloved pooch and we went to watch the sunset down on the rocks where not a soul was in sight. The weather was beautiful and I was in my pyjamas with a plastic bottle filled with Gin & Tonic, and not dressed for the occasion AT ALL. Shaun definitely surprised me by getting down on one knee.

I wanted something that had a mix of all the different styles I liked – it’s so hard to envision your wedding when all venues seem suited to better styles. I liked the traditional white look but didn’t want the formal big stately home, I loved a tipi festival wedding but that didn’t suit Shaun’s style so well. So we found the perfect venue where we had the beautiful country views and the outside feeling I wanted (FYI -am happiest outside exploring) but also had the modern barn.

The boys wore beige ‘Venice’ suits which we hired from Abigail’s Collection @ The Grooms Room in Colchester. I chose for Shaun because I wanted that summery more causal feel rather than a formal tux! I wore a dress called ‘Gemini’ by Dando London from Confetti & Lace. It was probably the 30th dress I tried on, but it gave me everything I wanted. Elegant, no lace, a bit of glamour, figure-hugging and sophisticated but also my style.

My sister was a Gemini (she passed away a year before my dress shopping) and it seemed like a sign to me that it was the right one. I’m so pleased I chose it I love it.

Don’t sweat the small stuff. No matter how many people told me my neurotic self didn’t listen, but none of it matters on the day. Just both turning up is the most important thing! Plan as far in advance as possible for all suppliers, and even making your decorations. It’s nice to spend the last month or so not completely stressed out on last-minute things. Don’t stress if people drop out – it’s not the end of the world!
