In Bali on Adam’s 40th birthday, think he was starting to panic he was getting old!
THE PROPOSAL

As relaxed and inclusive (for our guests) as possible, the dresses were all quite 1920’s but that was more due to personal taste rather than planning! I knew I wanted it to all be quite shabby and eclectic and being on the farm was a great canvas for this.
THE VISION
READ More
I (Heather) tried to do a lot myself so spent many a weekend painting signs in my garden and making things as we wanted it to be really personal, I also had a vintage tea party with some close friends to make all the save the dates. We (Adam and I) made a pact, right at the beginning that if anything got stressful or not enjoyable then we would leave it and come back to it and it worked pretty well as we didn’t fall out or get stressed (but maybe that’s because I did most of it! Ha!)
THE PLANNING PROCESS

We haven’t actually done a final count up, literally got back from a month long honeymoon yesterday, but we weren’t working to a strict nor crazy huge budget.

I designed the dress myself and Joanne Fleming (Joanne Fleming Designs) made it to my spec. I also added my own sash and designed my own head piece which was made with vintage pieces by Amanda Caroline Couture. My borrowed and blue was a beautiful antique sapphire ring lent to me by a friend which has been handed through her family.
THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES

I knew I wouldn’t suit an off the peg dress and really wanted to design my own, so went to Joanne (a recommendation from another couture dress maker) with my ideas.

Our dear friend Kathryn did a lovely reading for us – I had asked her not to tells us what it was before she did it, so it was a total surprise. It was perfect.
We had two bands, an absolutely fantastic band in the day (Mickey and Grace) that do a lot of swing and are just lovely, they did a play list we gave them after meeting with them to discuss (and ending up having lunch with them!) I couldn’t recommend them highly enough.

In the evening we had the Daggers equally as fantastic, they really get involved with the crowd and are brilliant guys.

Had three (one of which came all the way from Thailand bless her) they did not have flowers but parasols and were in vintage dresses I found in a vintage shop in Brighton that were very 1920’s with drop waists and lots of beading and they all looked amazing. I also designed a necklace for each of them to wear on the day (also forming part of their gifts) which Amanda also made.

We all walked bare foot down what was our aisle – the field down to Adam with Grace singing ‘At Last’ and the girls with their parasols in one hand and their shoes in the other, (my father held my shoes).

Sue Carter from the Flower Terrace Ltd provided the flowers at the venue, button holes and my bouquet, again, I planned them all in keeping with rustic theme and she did an amazing job. My bouquet was Peonies and some foliage and feathers to go with my dress.

I struggled to find a supplier that had anything to meet my requirements, I then found Susie Evans at Avensys and whilst she also didn’t have any of the things I was looking for she went out and sourced it all for me! She was a star!
I sent her links for Balinese Umbrellas, which I wanted to stage the end of the aisle where Adam and I stood and she bought the exact ones in! I also sent her images for what I wanted to do with the chairs

– draped material over the back pooling at the bottom and cinched in at the seat with decorative band (you need to see the pictures – very hard to explain – especially after only landing back yesterday!) which I was resigning to having to make myself (& I really didn’t have time to do) and again she sourced the material and ribbons and brooches to fix at the back, the end result being a very close match to my original spec and I was really pleased with.

Likewise, she sourced lace lanterns for me and tassels to hang from all the lanterns they provided. She wasn’t able to decorate the venue until first thing Saturday morning and really listened to all my positioning requests and it all looked fabulous.
The menus and table numbers were provided by Vintage Follie – again I designed these and Sarah at Vintage Follie made them for me, she also did all my invitations

and she is also fantastic, did everything exactly to my designs and they were fantastic.
I made the table plan from an old door frame I found at a salvage yard, I had asked all the guests to send me their picture with the RSVPs and once I had oiled and treated the door frame, I nailed twine across and pegged everyone’s pictures according to their tables. It was great and again added to the inclusive feel.

Try and take it all in as it goes so fast, but to be fair, we had the same advice and its impossible – even though we did it over three days!! Also I guess what we did with the planning worked about leaving it if got a tad stressful or not enjoyable then leaving it.
