Colourful Fun & Quirky London Warehouse Wedding

Alex tried to propose several times while we on a staycation visiting Brighton and the South Downs. However, I made so many jokes about proposals that he chickened out and instead proposed on a rainy Tuesday in our flat. He waited while I was out at Ikea and decked out our flat with candles, polaroids of the two of us, and sticky notes with various inside jokes – it was perfect.

We didn’t have a very clear vision or theme for our wedding. We knew we wanted to have lots of colourful flowers as a nod to my Pakistani heritage and we both liked the warehouse vibe with fairy lights (as true East Londoners would!). We also wanted to incorporate sharing food, rather than a traditional three-course meal to encourage people to really get to know each other over dinner. Apart from that, we relied heavily on our wonderful suppliers to help with décor and style.

London weddings are not cheap! We definitely did not stick to our £35,000 budget.

I am very lucky to have musically talented family and friends, and so my sister and best friend sang “I can’t help falling in love with you” as I walked down the aisle accompanied by a dear friend playing guitar. For the reception we had a brass band play a short set before switching to a meticulously curated wedding playlist that I put together.

I was very lucky to stumble across a social enterprise called Brides Do Good which is where I got my beautiful wedding dress from. Brides Do Good seeks to address waste issues in the wedding dress industry, so all its dresses are donated by other brides or designers and sold at a discounted price. On top of that, all their profits go towards charitable projects supporting women and girls, including projects to end child marriage around the world.

We contacted Worm Studios for our flowers that honestly stole the whole show. They were so colourful, and they actually suspended a beautiful ‘flower cloud’ arrangement at the top of the alter which was stunning. Our florists also took really special care to reuse decorations wherever they could. For example, vases used to line the aisle were then used as table decorations to keep costs down.

We had a cupcake tower for our wedding cake by the amazing Miss Cupcakes and we requested pink and orange floral decorations to go with the flowers. Our linens also incorporated peach tones. Alex made a number of paper cranes which we used as table decorations, and we ordered a beautiful wooden sign from Etsy to display our table arrangements. For favours we had shots of limoncello and floral temporary tattoos.

The food, by Boulevard Events, was utterly delicious (we wish we had been able to eat more!) and beautifully presented.

As it was still a bit tricky to travel abroad due to Covid-19, we had a staycation in the Cotswolds at a beautiful spa hotel and basically spent all our time in the sauna or by the pool chilling out.

Our first dance was very special as we had spent a lot of time practising it and the venue had a beautiful disco ball which lit up the dancefloor. The vows and speeches were also so touching and funny.
