We hiked up to Durdle Door in Dorset at sunset on a lovely warm evening and spread out a beautiful champagne picnic overlooking the sea. We were surrounded by so many butterflies and flowers, and we had the place to ourselves – it was utterly magical.

We wanted a really personalised day that reflected both of our tastes throughout, with as little environmental impact as possible as weddings can be so wasteful!

The Vision

We chose Northbrook Park in Hampshire for its stunning grounds and its proximity to most of our London-based family and friends. They also have eco cabins onsite which allowed our guests to stay over and have breakfast with us the next morning in the sunshine – an unplanned highlight!

I bought my beautiful Pronovias dress from the incredible Brides do Good in Earl’s Court. BDG sell sample and pre-loved dresses and donate 30% of their profits to charities working to end the practice of child brides. I knew I didn’t want a brand-new dress for environmental reasons, and the fact that 30% of the cost went to doing good in the world was a huge bonus. Seth’s shirt was from Hawes & Curtis, and his suit was from the Grooms Room in Colchester.

We chose to write our own vows so we could express in our own words just how much marrying each other meant to us, I still cry when I reread Seth’s beautiful words! Pachelbel’s Canon in D played for the processional – at nearly 5 minutes it helped to slow things down when emotions were running high, as I really wanted to savour and remember that special moment with my dad before walking out.

We signed the register to Sam Cooke’s Bring It on Home to Me, and Joe Satriani’s Always With You, Always With Me which holds a lot of personal significance to us. We walked back down the aisle to Everlasting Love by Natalie Cole – a song we always dance around to when we’re cooking at home!

We created a lot of this ourselves as we love crafts! I did most of the calligraphy for the stationery and signage myself, while Seth’s mum (an amazing gardener) grew mini succulents for the dinner tables, and his dad picked damson, elderflower and sloe berries to make infused gin gift favours, which went down an absolute treat!

Our florist was Lucy Charlotte who honestly worked miracles with our request for all seasonal and locally grown flowers – they were so dreamy. We went for a buttery lemon and peachy colour scheme to create a warm spring feel which was really brought out by the sunshine on the day!

We really wanted to work with laid-back vendors and Lucy and Josh were both so chilled and made us feel really relaxed throughout the day – the guests also loved them! Their work is completely beautiful and we’d recommend them to anyone.

We were due to spend 3 weeks exploring Sri Lanka but due to the very sad situation ongoing there we had to hastily change plans the day after the wedding. We kept it more local with a romantic tour around Italy (Rome, Tuscany and Venice) and stunning Slovenia (Ljubljana and Lake Bled), which we couldn’t recommend more.

After walking back down the aisle we were able to share a glass of champagne in private whilst our guests formed the confetti lines. It was such an intimate moment after the overwhelming emotion of the ceremony to quietly share the sheer joy of finally being husband and wife.

If you don’t have a wedding planner, go with a venue that provides a lot of on-the-day coordination so you can really relax. I also made a thorough document for our wedding party with all the info to make sure the day ran smoothly, which it thankfully did! If you’re having children at your wedding, consider getting childcare for the dinner – it was a last-minute decision but one of the best we made for ourselves and for the parents!

Most importantly, remember to take some moments throughout the day to step back, watch it all happening and absorb the joy as it really is the most incredible day you’ll ever live.
